My first dedicated server, back in 2005

This is a short post about my first ever dedicated server… back in 2005. I seldom forget exactly how long I’ve been involved in the web industry. I took a moment to reflect back in time. Using the WayBackMachine I was able to find the company’s page and details. I rented my first dedicated server from a company called AngelNetworkz. This image below is exactly how I remember their website and page looking.

Back then I was literally a young teenager and supported the cost of the server rental with a paper route. I had an interest in building websites the moment I got my hands on the Internet at a young age. One thing led to another and I eventually slowly worked my way up the web hosting chain. First getting shared hosting, then reseller hosting and then a dedicated server. There was really no virtual servers back in this time. I remember being so excited about being in full control of my own dedicated server.

Looking at the specs of the server in present time is now laughable…

  • Intel Celeron Processor 2.40 GHz CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 120GB HDD
  • 1000GB bandwidth on a 100Mbps port

It seems crazy how much you can get for the same amount of money these days and really shows you how far things have come in a relatively short period of time.
