Slow vSkilled Website

Yes. I know. My website is slow. It seems to be a combination of the traffic and the theme. I’ve tried optimizing everything as much as possible but the theme just can’t handle it. vSkilled is already on PHP 7 with PHP-FPM, CloudFlare CDN, etc. The website is quite heavy on media and javascript. The most recent speed test was 36.13 seconds. That’s terrible.

Later this year I plan on overhauling the design of vSkilled to fix these problems. There are also other issues with the website that I am aware of:

  • Non-www redirect loop
  • Next pages don’t parse correctly
  • Search results not the best
  • Top ad broken
  • Other minor quirks

I haven’t had much time to focus on vSkilled but these are on my to do list I assure you. I still like the theme I have now, I just wish it worked properly under load. To fix these problems is basically to overhaul the entire website which will take me some time. The website hasn’t had a refresh since it launched in 2014, so it’s probably overdue anyway. 🙂
